Raipur, Oct 11, 2025 — A CoBRA commando from the 206 battalion was injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast during a routine area domination operation in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-affected Bijapur district.
The blast occurred near Pujari Kanker under the jurisdiction of the Usur Police Station, where a security team from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) had launched a patrol early Saturday morning. The IED, believed to have been pressure-activated and planted by Maoist insurgents, detonated while the team was combing through the forested terrain.
The injured jawan sustained minor injuries and was swiftly evacuated from the site. Authorities confirmed that he is in stable condition and has been moved to a higher medical facility for further treatment.
This incident is a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by left-wing extremists in the Bastar region, where insurgent activity remains active despite years of counter-insurgency efforts. Maoist groups continue to rely on guerrilla warfare tactics, including ambushes and IEDs, to target security personnel and disrupt development initiatives.
Bijapur, along with Dantewada and Sukma, is among the districts most affected by Maoist influence. The roots of the insurgency lie in long-standing socio-economic challenges, including tribal displacement, lack of infrastructure, and disputes over land and resources.
Despite these challenges, security forces have made significant strides in weakening Maoist strongholds in recent years. Earlier this month, over 100 Maoists voluntarily surrendered in Bijapur, citing disillusionment with the group’s ideology and growing internal conflict.
The state government continues to implement rehabilitation measures, offering financial assistance and reintegration opportunities to encourage surrender and promote peace.
While such progress reflects a changing landscape, sporadic attacks like Saturday’s underscore the need for continued vigilance and adaptive security strategies. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to balancing enforcement with development to bring long-term stability to the region.
