World Photography Day BMC and Government School Students Capture Mumbai Through Their Lenses

Mumbai, August 18th, 2026: On the occasion of World Photography Day, in a path-breaking initiative, students from BMC and government run schools enrolled in Salaam Bombay Foundation's photography programme are marking World Photography Day with a set of images shot across Mumbai, including the Gateway of India, Paradox Museum and Mani Bhavan. The photographs are the result of an ongoing collaboration between Salaam Bombay Foundation and Cityflo, under which the students received photography training and access to the sites.

A selection of the images will be showcased across Cityflo platforms over the coming weeks, giving the students' work an audience well beyond their schools.

Sankalp Kelshikar, Co-founder & CMO said, “These photographs are a reminder of how differently young people see their city. Beyond our buses, we're now also sharing this body of work with our customers so even more people get to see Mumbai and the roads they travel through from a unique lens.”

Harshraj Sahani – Salaam Bombay Foundation (Student) - I was very excited to visit the Gateway of India. I had seen it in pictures before, but seeing it in real life and clicking its pictures myself was really fun. I tried to take the best picture I could.

komal Sutar - Salaam Bombay Foundation (Student) - ““I really enjoyed travelling in the bus. It felt like going on a picnic. I loved visiting different places in Mumbai and getting the chance to click their pictures. I had a lot of fun.

Prithvi Zende - Salaam Bombay Foundation (Student) - ““I like taking pictures and I used to click them on my dad’s mobile. Through Salaam Bombay Foundation, I got a chance to learn photography. They come to our school and teach us how to take pictures. I am very happy that I got the chance to travel around Mumbai and click pictures of different places”

Taushef Mansoori (Student) - Salaam Bombay Foundation “For me, photography is about clicking things that I like and making them a memory. I really enjoyed taking pictures during this trip and I want to learn more and take better pictures.”

The initiative is part of a longer-running collaboration between the two organisations, aimed at giving BMC and government school students access to experiences and skills beyond the classroom. Recently, on Independence Day, the students visited the iconic spots of South Mumbai on Cityflo buses, where they got the opportunity to click various photographs.
