New Accelerator to Give India’s Energy Startups a Stronger Path to Scale

New Delhi, Aug 21: India’s energy innovation ecosystem is set to receive a fresh boost with the launch of MC²+ Ignite, a specialised accelerator aimed at helping promising deep-tech startups turn advanced ideas and prototypes into practical solutions for the energy sector.

The programme plans to select around 30 startups for its first cohort. Eligible ventures can receive milestone-linked convertible funding of up to Rs 2 crore each, along with access to research infrastructure, technical guidance, industry expertise and real-world pilot opportunities.

The initiative is particularly significant for deep-tech entrepreneurs, who often need substantial testing, specialised infrastructure and industry partnerships before their technologies can reach commercial markets. MC²+ Ignite is designed to bridge this gap by bringing funding, laboratories, mentors and potential industry users closer to startups.

The programme will operate through a hub in Delhi and nodes located at the research and development centres of participating oil and gas companies. This model will allow startups to test and validate their technologies in practical industrial environments rather than relying only on laboratory trials.

To strengthen its technical ecosystem, MC²+ has partnered with institutions including IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, C-CAMP and Venture Centre, Pune. These partnerships are expected to provide startups with access to laboratories, research facilities and experienced mentors across different locations.

The initiative also seeks to bring energy companies, researchers and entrepreneurs onto a common platform, helping identify industry challenges and connect them with innovative technology solutions. This approach could reduce duplication in research efforts while creating clearer opportunities for promising technologies to move towards commercial deployment.

Applications for the first cohort opened on August 5 and are scheduled to close on August 31, 2026, with the selected startups expected to be announced on September 15.

With financial support combined with technical mentorship, infrastructure and industry access, MC²+ Ignite could provide Indian energy startups with a more supportive environment to develop, test and scale new technologies.

The programme marks another step towards strengthening India's domestic deep-tech ecosystem and encouraging innovations that can contribute to a more advanced, competitive and technology-driven energy sector.
