Scrub Typhus Situation Under Control in Angul, Says Odisha Health Department

Angul, Aug. 31 (UDN): The Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department has appealed to residents of Angul district not to panic over recent reports of scrub typhus cases, clarifying that the initially reported positive cases were based on preliminary rapid diagnostic tests and have not been confirmed.

The Directorate of Public Health said the suspected cases are undergoing confirmation through the more reliable Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) test.

In the first round of confirmatory testing, all nine individuals who had earlier tested positive through rapid test kits were found negative in ELISA tests. The remaining samples are still under laboratory evaluation.

Health officials said the district administration has intensified surveillance in the affected areas, with medical teams conducting field assessments and ensuring that anyone with symptoms receives appropriate care.

As part of the preventive response, authorities have launched active surveillance, awareness campaigns, and other public health interventions to reduce the risk of infection and strengthen early detection.

The Health Department assured that the situation is being monitored continuously and that adequate measures are in place to protect public health, urging residents to remain vigilant while relying on verified official updates rather than unconfirmed reports.
