The three-day military exercise aims to improve coordination, operational readiness and interoperability between the armed forces of the two neighbouring countries during natural disasters and other humanitarian emergencies.

According to the Indian Embassy in Myanmar, the exercise reflects the shared commitment of both nations to improving disaster response mechanisms, saving lives and providing relief to affected communities.

Tri-Services Showcase Rescue and Relief Capabilities

During the exercise, the Indian Army demonstrated its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capabilities alongside the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.

The participating forces showcased the operational capabilities of Flood Relief Columns and Engineer Task Forces through a series of practical demonstrations.

The activities included rescue operations, dewatering operations and bridge-laying exercises aimed at restoring connectivity in disaster-affected areas.

These demonstrations highlighted the importance of coordinated military operations in responding effectively to floods and other emergencies, particularly when critical infrastructure and transportation networks are damaged.

The Indian Embassy in Myanmar described the exercise as an important initiative towards strengthening cooperation in disaster response and reinforcing the spirit of partnership between the two countries.

Part of India's MAHASAGAR Vision

Exercise Rahat Mitra also reflects India's broader regional engagement under the MAHASAGAR vision — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.

Through such initiatives, India seeks to strengthen regional cooperation, promote shared security interests and support neighbouring countries in addressing common humanitarian challenges.

Recent Military Engagements Strengthen Bilateral Ties

The joint exercise follows the eighth India-Myanmar Army-to-Army Staff Talks held in Naypyidaw last week.

During the discussions, both sides explored ways to expand military cooperation through joint training programmes, military exercises, capacity-building initiatives and professional exchanges.

The Indian delegation also met Myanmar's Chief of Armed Forces Training to discuss ongoing cooperation and identify new areas of engagement.

As part of India's capacity-building support, training simulators were handed over to the Myanmar Army during the visit.

The latest joint exercise and military-level discussions underline the continuing efforts by New Delhi and Naypyidaw to deepen defence cooperation and strengthen their partnership in humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and regional security.
