Hyderabad, Oct 04: In a significant advancement in cancer care, KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, has introduced state-of-the-art radiation oncology technologies, including the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator integrated with Brainlab Dynamic Surface Guided Radiation Therapy. These advanced technologies will enable the hospital to provide highly precise and personalised radiation treatment, tailored to the individual needs of cancer patients.

KIMS Hospitals Takes Another Major Step Forward in Cancer Care with Advanced TrueBeam Technology

Dr B. Bhaskar Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, KIMS Group of Hospitals, inaugurated the new technologies on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that KIMS was committed to bringing advanced medical technologies to patients in Telangana and neighbouring regions, with the objective of improving access to high-quality cancer care. By combining cutting-edge technology with the expertise of experienced medical professionals, the hospital aims to deliver advanced and patient-centric treatment, he added.

Dr T. Pratap Reddy, Head of Radiation Oncology, KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, said,

“The integration of Brainlab Dynamic SGRT technology with the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator marks a significant advancement in our radiation oncology services. Features such as real-time monitoring of patient movements, six-dimensional patient positioning corrections and respiratory motion management help enhance the accuracy and consistency of treatment. Our objective is to combine advanced technology with the expertise of our medical team to deliver personalised treatment while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety.”

The TrueBeam system supports several advanced radiation therapy techniques, including Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy, Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery/Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy. These techniques enable radiation to be precisely focused on tumours while helping minimise radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.

The integrated Brainlab Dynamic SGRT technology enables real-time, non-contact monitoring of the patient's body surface and movements during treatment. Combined with six-dimensional (6D) couch corrections and respiratory motion management, the system helps ensure accurate patient positioning and improves treatment precision.

The technology is particularly beneficial in procedures such as Deep Inspiration Breath Hold, commonly used in breast cancer radiation treatment. In appropriately selected patients, this technique helps minimise radiation exposure to the heart, thereby improving the safety of treatment.

Dr B. Abhinay, Chief Executive Officer, KIMS Group of Hospitals, and Dr Sambit Sahu, Medical Director, KIMS Group of Hospitals, were also present at the inauguration.
