“India is at an important juncture in its demographic transition. According to the Government’s population projections, the number of Indians aged 60 and above is expected to increase from 10 crore in 2011 to 23 crore by 2036, with their share of the population rising from 8.4% to 14.9%. At the same time, an estimated 8.8 million Indians aged 60 and above are living with dementia, highlighting the growing need for early detection and specialised senior care. These numbers underscore the need to move beyond episodic healthcare towards preventive health, cognitive care, rehabilitation, assisted living and long-term support. As India ages, building a comprehensive continuum of senior care will be critical to helping older adults live healthier, more independent and fulfilling lives.”
