Mumbai, Oct 30: Most breakup records linger on the fight or the slammed door. On his new single ‘Believe Me’, singer-songwriter and actor Danish Sood focuses instead on the uncomfortable, hushed silence that comes after: the realization that two people can love each other deeply and still run out of road.
Written, composed, and produced by Sood, the track leans into a stripped-back, atmospheric indie-pop space layered with warm R&B undercurrents. Rather than leaning on theatrical sadness, ‘Believe Me’ is built around understated confession. It tracks the small compromises, selfish missteps, and quiet distance that turn an anchor into something you have to unhook.
“I wrote this about the phase of a breakup people rarely capture well—when you both still care, but you both already know how it ends,” says Sood. “I didn’t want theatrical drama. I wanted it to feel like that late-night conversation you have in low light and then replay in your head on loop for the next two months.”
The release marks a decidedly reflective turn for the New Delhi-born artist, whose signature sound has lived comfortably at the crossroads of neo-soul, contemporary R&B, and melodic pop. While Sood has become a go-to collaborator across Indian streaming shows—scoring and performing hits like ‘Jaanu Na’ and ‘Wingman’ for Netflix’s Mismatched, ‘Kya Karun’ for Prime Video’s Call Me Bae, and ‘Bikhar Gaya’ for Naam Namak Nishaan—‘Believe Me’ strips away the screen narrative to expose his most personal songwriting yet.
Following recent independent releases like Crash and Paraye, ‘Believe Me’ captures an artist letting go of polished pop tropes in favor of raw narrative weight. It plays less like a single aimed at a playlist hook and more like an overheard conversation between two people who know they've reached the end.
‘Believe Me’ is out now on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major streaming services.
